The Challenge.

Britannia Yacht Club (BYC) is a popular yacht club in Ottawa. They have a rich history, extensive facilities, a vibrant community, and beautiful views of the Ottawa River.

WebMarketers were approached to design and develop a custom website that would embody the club’s in-person experience in a digital format. BYC also wanted to target a younger audience by drawing attention to its programming and premier event venues.

The Strategy.

To properly showcase their community and facilities, we enlisted the help of our photographer and videographer experts at Phantom Productions. We needed to fill the site with photos and videos that told BYC’s story.

To target a younger audience, we knew social media needed to be seamlessly integrated into the website design since social media is a major source of traffic for BYC.

The Design

Our main goal for the website was to bring the Britannia Yacht Club experience to the user. We wanted every website visitor to experience the feeling BYC conveys before engaging further with the website.

We achieved this by prominently displaying the images and videos shot by Phantom Productions instead of using generic stock images competitors tend to use. To accompany these high-quality images, our designers used a sleek, minimal layout that combined the use of serif and sans serif fonts.

The Development

Once our website designers finished the designs, our developers got started on building the WordPress site using Elementor to ensure the site was easy for the client to make changes and updates. We organized the menu in a way that streamlines the massive amount of content on the website and draws attention to the most important pages.

Since we were using a video banner on the homepage, we used a third-party video host to display it to ensure we maintained a good site speed score.
